The first days are spent at Kafunta River Lodge, which offers the opportunity to explore the game rich Mfuwe area. Game activities at Kafunta River Lodge include game viewing in open vehicles and unique night drives to view nocturnal animals. A two hour drive from Kafunta River Lodge through remote wilderness takes you to Island Bush Camp in the very south of the National Park. Island Bush Camp offers rustic bush accommodation in grass/reed huts, build on stilts that ensure safety from wild animals and provide an unlimited view over the Luangwa River. The camp is base for our daily walking safaris, which take place two times a day. In the evening the campfire is the center point to relax and sip a drink.
We fly from Mfuwe, in the East of Zambia, to Lower Zambezi, in the South, where the safari continues at Chongwe River Camp, situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. The Chongwe River is the boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park, a four thousand square kilometer pristine sanctuary, teeming with game and famed for its unparalleled tiger fish angling.
The following days we stay at Chongwe River Camp. Situated under a canopy of Albia thorns and surrounded by cool lawns the lodge command fabulous views over the two rivers. Activities are game viewing in open safari vehicles, guided walking, canoeing or motor boating. Fishing is also a popular option.
The last days we spent at Bushbuck Camp. Whilst every comfort is catered for with Maluti tents with twin or double beds, flush toilet and hot bucket showers, the camp is truly rustic but comfortable. The camp is situated on a 60 foot cliff overlooking a bend on the Chongwe River near the idyllic Chongwe Water Fall which tumbles out of the Muchinga escarpment. In these mountains the walks from Bushbuck take place. The terrain offers opportunity for special ‘on foot’ sightings of common game like Buffalo and Elephant but also rare species like Klipspringers and Bushpig.
