Walking safari in South Luangwa National Park

Our 10 night North/South Luangwa Safari takes you through the whole of the Luangwa Valley from the very south of the South Luangwa National Park to North Luangwa National Park. On this Safari we discover the unspoilt wilderness and untouched beauty of the Luangwa River region.

The safari is conducted on foot and in open 4 x 4 vehicles, shade roofs provide comfort for the travel between camps. This Safari takes you though some of the remotest areas in Africa, challenging road conditions and river crossings add to the adventure.

The Safari starts in Lusaka with a flight to Mfuwe where you will spend the first nights at Kafunta River Lodge. During your morning and afternoon/night game drives you will discover the high game concentration of Mfuwe area.

From Kafunta River Lodge we travel 2 to 4 hours south to at the remote Island Bush Camp. The Camp is set on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking a huge pod of hippos, the days are spend exploring this area on foot, in the evening we enjoy a campfire meal by the Luangwa River.

We return to Mfuwe before we fly to North Luangwa, the short flight offers the great opportunity to see this remote area and its natural beauty from the air. The North Luangwa National Park is known for its high population of predators, huge buffalo herds and endemic Cookson’s wildebeest. It is one of the wildest places on earth!

We will be staying at Mwaleshi Camp, which is set on the crystal clear Mwaleshi River in the heart of the park. The remote setting of this comfortable camp adds to the real wilderness atmosphere. Mwaleshi Camp will be our base for the following days. We will discover the wilderness on foot.

The return flight offers another opportunity to view the mighty Luangwa River from the air. The final days are spent at Kafunta River Lodge discovering more of the South Luangwa National Park.
The Safari ends with a return flight to Lusaka. Alternatively this Safari can start and end with flight from/to Lilongwe.
