The temperatures are pleasant, with warm days and comfortable nights. It is dry but the last short rains could be experienced at the start of April. The bush is lush and the grass has turned golden brown, the sky is clear covered with white clouds. It is a great time to visit the Luangwa and game viewing is good.

June, July

They are the coolest month and sometimes cold at night, with warm and pleasant days. The bush is drying up fast and the remote areas are now open. The game viewing is great and the cooler days make it pleasant to stay out on safari longer.

August, September, October

These are the hottest month with August being modest and October very hot right into the night. The bush is dry and animals frequently come down to the river to drink; the game viewing can be amazing. The landscape is dry and dusty ready for the first rains in late October.

November, December

These months bring hot days and warm nights. First occasional rain showers start in November and last through December, it does not rain daily and it never last long (1 hour). It is amazing to see the change from the dusty dry to new life. The bush awakens with new greenery and many animals have their young. This is a great time to experience the bush and the game viewing is great.

January to March

These months are the peak of the rainy season, heavy storms last into the night and it can rain for hours, mainly at night. The days are sunny and bright with fantastic views and stunning sunsets. The water table rises and the rivers and lagoon are water filled. The bush is lush and green making game viewing more difficult but still rewarding. The roads are wet and game drives are restricted to the main road, many areas of the park are not accessible. Some operators offer river safaris for this time of the year.
