We had an extremely unusual sighting recently from the Kafunta River Lodge deck. Whilst everyone was enjoying a drink around the fire after the evening game drive, we were alerted to something unusual happening on the plains by the desperate puku calls. After turning on the spotlights, we saw a hippo with a baby puku in its mouth. After killing the baby the hippo moved away, leaving dinner for the crocodiles… and a very upset mother puku.
The Island Bush Camp, not to be outdone, also had their share of hippo sightings…. The camp woke up one morning and whilst they had breakfast, they sat and watched crocodiles eating a dead hippo for their breakfast!!
All in all, just another spectacular day at Kafunta River Lodge.
